Today’s featured business is part of our #StartSmall series, encouraging members of our region to start their holiday shopping with local small business first. Through the month of December, we’ll get to know the faces of small business through conversation with local business owners.
A festive display inside Susan’s electic retail space, featuring a variety of home decor options, most of which are vintage and repurposed. See more about her business here.
Today we meet Susan of 1419 Mercantile, who took a few minutes out of her day to tell us what she enjoys about owning a business here in Manhattan and why she loves what she does.
What do you love about owning a business in Manhattan?
Manhattan is home. This community has been extremely supportive of our small business. Words can not express how thankful we are for our customers!
What’s your business backstory?
We are a family business and long time dream of Shopkeeper, Susan. With decades of experience in floral design and home decor in 2013 we opened our doors with the name 1419 Mercantile. The 14 and 19 represent the lucky dates (birthdays & anniversary) in our family.
Tell us why you love what you do.
Helping someone make their house into a home that expresses their unique style is what makes us excited to be in the store every day.
What experience do you want people to have in your shop? How do you want people to feel interacting with you and your products?
When you shop at 1419 Mercantile we want you to feel at home. Come in and ask questions or show us that Pinterest board you have!
